Ipoh is known as the town of beauty. It is rumoured that fair maidens ruled this town, other than it's most famous delicacy, Bean Sprout Chicken Rice. It is said that the mountaineous surroundings of Ipoh and fresh water from the hills contributed to the maidens' fair skinned beauty and breeds bigger, more beautiful taugehs!
Yesterday i went down to Ipoh to attend an ex colleague wedding. As the dinner was quite late, i decided to spend a night there. Might as well treat it as an weekend escape from the hustle and buzzle of the hectic city life in KL. I started the journey to Ipoh at about 12noon and arrived there about 2.30pm. Checked into a hotel called Ritz Garden in the heart of Ipoh town. The hotel was probably a decent 3 to 4 star hotel with a modern design to it. The colour scheme of the rooms were vibrant and the furnitures has a unique fun twist to it. These are some of the photos i have taken. Notice how the furnitures and fixtures design tend to spark a little imagination to it with its sense of suggestiveness?
Hmm...does this toilet bowl looks like a female to you? Well, it has two holes instead of the typical one hole type which kinda looks like a part of the female anatomy, rite?
Even the hair dryer's brand is called 'the banger'.
Overall, the room has a very lively and fun feel to it.
After checking the hotel out, we proceed to go hunting for some good food in Ipoh since it was still early and not time for the dinner yet. One very famous food in Ipoh is its taugeh chicken rice. And where else would the most famous one be? LOU WONG TAUGEH CHICKEN RICE RESTAURANT. This restaurant is packed with locals and tourists alike round the clock. In fact, it is so popular that the boss even decided to extend its business hours to 2.30am!
Bean sprouts or more affectionally known as taugeh in Malaysia, is a must have in Ipoh. The taugeh in Ipoh is famous because it is much more 'fatter or bigger' than anywhere else in Malaysia. Looks much better than its shrunken counterpart in KL.
Even the banner claims this is THE MOST famous Chicken Rice outlet in Ipoh.
My first meal in Ipoh. Meat balls soup, Ipoh famous chicken rice, bean sprout, barli drink, hor fun and rice. Of course, sharing with my bf la...can't chunk down all this food by myself eh.
The crowd here is usually good.
The famous chickens hanging in a row.
Around this area, there is stiff competition such as this restaurant which is situated opposite LOU WONG. Some locals argued that the chicken here taste much better than Lou Wong's.
Ipoh is also famous for its pamelo and chicken biscuits ('Kai Chai pheng'). In Ipoh, 3 types of eatery you can find in abundance is White coffee, chicken biscuits and Chicken rice.
Isn't the bears cute? Arrived for my friend's wedding at 7.30pm at KoK Thai Restaurant.
Look out for PART TWO, which is the second day i spent in Ipoh before returning back to KL. It is filled with much more food and mystery! Come back soon!
